Infiniti G35 Airbag Recall AttorneysOn May 4, 2010, Nissan Motor Company announced a recall of close to 135,000 Infiniti G35 sedans and Infiniti G35 coupes, including certain 2005 to 2007 G35 coupes and 2005 to 2006 G35 sedans. According to the automaker, the wire harness under the front passenger seat could wear down and interrupt the air bag's signal, which could cause the airbag to not deploy in the event of a crash. At the time of the announcement, Nissan had not yet announced a plan to fix the vehicles. If you were injured in a crash in a recalled Infiniti G35 and the airbag failed to deploy, you may benefit from speaking to an attorney about a possible airbag defect claim. Depending on how the crash occurred, if the failure of the airbag to deploy caused your injuries, you may be entitled to compensation from Nissan Motor Company in a personal injury claim. Other Airbag Defect Recalls Nissan's latest recall announcement is just one of many recalls announced recently having to due with airbags. In January 2009, Nissan recalled more than 240,000 model year 2005-2009 Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra vehicles in cold weather states to fix a problem that could prevent air bags from deploying in a crash due to road salt interfering with a crash zone sensor. Other recent airbag recalls include, but are not limited to: April 2010: Acura recalled about 1,850 2010 Acura ZDX models after a problem was detected in the manufacturing process that could affect the deployment of the passenger side airbag. December 2009: Jaguar Land Rover announced a recall of certain 2010 Range Rove vehicles in which the passenger airbag may be turned off as a result of a defect with the occupant classification system (OCS). December 2009: Volkswagen announced a recall of certain model year 2009 Q5 passenger vehicles because an a-pillar trim cover clip could come loose if the airbag deployed, causing injury to the front seat occupants of the vehicle. November 2009: Chrysler recalled certain 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles because the passenger side airbag may not deploy properly through the instrument panel tear seam in the event of a crash. April 2009: Chrysler recalled about 4,300 model year 2009 Dodge Journey, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Commander and Jeep Wrangler vehicles due to a problem with the wiring in the steering column that could cause the driver's airbag to not properly inflate. August 2008: BMW recalled about 200,000 vehicles, including the 2004 to 2005 5-Series standard and sport seat models, the 2004 to 2006 X3 and the 2006 3-Series with sport seats, because it was possible that, according to the NHTSA, "the front passenger airbags will not deploy even if a sufficiently severe accident would occur." February 2008: Ford recalled about 470,000 Mustangs, model years 2005-2008 due to concerns that small females riding in the front-passenger seat, without a seat belt on, could be at an increased risk of neck injury if the seat were to be in the full forward position during air bag deployment. Types of Airbag Defects Although a defect in an airbag is not likely to cause a crash itself, like a defect in a tire might, an airbag defect can cause serious injury or death in the event of a crash. Failure to deploy is not the only possible problem with airbags. Defects can include faulty installation that results in the airbag not deploying when it should, or a defect with the way an airbag is folded, tethered, or installed. Defects can also be related to the position of the seat in relation to an airbag, the angle an airbag deploys, the rate the airbag deploys, the type of material inside the airbag, and the type of sensors used to trigger deployment in a collision. Airbag Defect Attorneys Airbags play an important safety role in the event of a collision, especially frontal-impact and head-on collisions. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that more than 6,377 lives have been saved due to airbag deployments from 1990 to 2008. Unfortunately, there are lots of problems with airbags and vehicle manufacturers frequently announce recalls to address issues with them. When these defects cause injury or death that could have been prevented had the airbag worked properly, the manufacturer of the vehicle may be liable for the victim's injuries or wrongful death. If you have been hurt or a loved one has died in an accident and you believe it may be due to an airbag that failed to deploy or an airbag that improperly deployed, contact the dangerous products attorneys at Estey Bomberger to discuss your case. |
